In 1931, a MOB of white people protested Arthur and Edith Lee's purchase of their home at 4600 Columbus.

Look at this shot of all these smug white people! They stoned the house! They killed the Lee's dog!

The Lee's were *supposed* to live just a few blocks North, closer to where George Floyd was murdered. They were NOT supposed to live here, and these white folks would not stand for it! They would, however, pose for photos.
My grandparents lived just a few blocks away. Maybe they weren't at this "protest" but...were they against it?

The kids in this photo! They had kids, who had kids, and maybe some of those grandkids are us.
Kids who grew up to be adults who were unaware of how their skin color gave them advantages (economic and emotional and educational) that they didn't earn, but felt like they did.
Our history in Minnesota is stolen land and redlining and racism. Acknowledging that is important. It's not enough to just not be racist, we have to think about and inspect and eradicate the way this racism has soaked into us.
