Starting June 1, @chtransit looks forward to welcoming back customers as we slowly begin to phase in routes. Our sole priority continues to be protecting the safety and well-being of our team members and customers. https://twitter.com/chtransit/status/1265992282437816321
Our goals include: running core routes for essential trips, providing access for those w/ the fewest options to health care, groceries, etc. and providing coverage across the communities we serve. The following are some of the steps we are taking:
1. Installing barriers to protect @chtransit operators. We ask that customers, who are able, continue to board through the rear doors.
2.Providing operators with PPE: masks, gloves, disinfecting wipes, face shields and hand sanitizer.
3. Disinfecting buses and vehicles frequently. We continue to use EPA approved disinfectants that are safe and odorless. High touch areas are wiped down with disinfectant and crews use foggers in buses which spray disinfecting mist.
4. We will start service 8 core routes: CM, D, G, J, NS, RU, S & U. Routes will operate on published schedules until 8 p.m. for now. EZ-Rider will also operate from 5am-8pm. https://www.townofchapelhill.org/government/departments-services/transit/routes-schedules/all-routes-schedules
5. We will limit buses to 10 customers and 15 for larger articulated buses. Signs will be posted on seats to help create space between customers.
For routes like the S and NS we will provide extra buses during peak hours to help with customer demand – please be patient as we adjust and customers begin to travel again.
6. Signs are being printed and will soon be displayed throughout the system and on buses to reinforce social distancing expectations.
7. Face coverings are strongly recommended. We are also exploring mask vending devices for buses.
8. Hand sanitizer dispensers are on every bus.
9. @chtransit continues to explore new technologies used by peer transit systems in response to COVID-19. For example, we are evaluating new cleaning procedures such as ultraviolet disinfecting piloted by NYC MTA.
10. We strongly encourage employers to allow for staggered shifts to help spread out the commute and avoid crowding during peak travel times.
11. Our team members are available to participate in virtual meetings to answer questions about @chtransit service and new safety measures.
We will continue to move forward w/ service improvements this August ( http://townofchapelhill.org/home/showdocum …), including new Sat. & Sun. routes & creating more reliable schedules for many of our routes - some of these plans may be impacted by COVID.
We are doing all we can to make @chtransit as safe as possible & that social distancing is followed. We welcome your questions and will continue to share more as details become more clear & public health guidance is updated. Thank you all for helping to keep our communities safe.
