My beautiful friends! I never try to push theory down anybody’s throat because it’s not necessary in order to be an activist! But we are caught in a volatile historical moment. We are watching the system burn the fuck down because of our movements.

But theory at this moment can help make sense of our pain and emotions. It’s time to pull out that Fanon; dust off that Mao; get your Malcolm; Davis; DuBois; and Lenin out. Just because you can physically be there arming out in the streets doesn’t mean there’s nothing you can do!

Learn about the movements for *you* not because some pseudo-educated hipster Brooklynite tells you too. Don’t let him be the only one with that knowledge. To them, it’s an aesthetic; to us, it’s the game plan.

Theory by itself is useless to our movement without action behind it. Action will always dominate theory—but don’t sell it short! Together, theory helps conceptualize exactly what it is at stake. It makes more nuanced, responsive, and discerning activists out of all of us.

Do not let white academics aestheticize our history! Our blood, sweat, and tears! Theories are built off our backs and it would be a possible fatal mistake not to realize, celebrate, and analyze that. We will win!
