definitely pay attention to the language being used to describe what’s happening in Minneapolis vs. other similar events involving white people
notice how when white people are involved the media uses words like “liberating” and “surviving”, yet when black people do the same it’s “rioting” and “looting”
this isn’t something to breeze past. rhetoric matters. the connotations of the words that the media uses matters. it is rooted in racism and to ignore it is to ignore the racism that’s propagated by the media itself.
this has been happening over and over again for years. we saw it in Watts and SEVERAL other cities during 1968. and it keeps happening and yet there is no change in the way that the actions of black people reacting to institutional violence and racism is reported by the media.
