Despite the ban on public gatherings, the far right Mi Hazánk/Our Homeland movement and football ultras have organized a racist, anti-Roma demonstration today in downtown #Budapest 1/
The event was sparked by a double homicide last week, when two young football fans have been stabbed by another youngster. The far right alleges that the latter belongs to #Hungary's Roma minority, and uses the murder to generate anti-Roma sentiments 2/
"Roma criminality" is a long held, and at times politically profitable, narrative of Hungarian far right. Mi hazánk is a splinter group of Jobbik which is undergoing a years-long internal crisis caused by its attempt to refashion itself as a moderate party 3/

Also, there are more and more voices claiming that the suspect was not at all Roma. The difficulty is that while the far right can play arbitrary ascription, we cannot b/c we would stay in the same racist framework of judging people by their looks. 5/
The whole point is that the ethnic background should be irrelevant, for it does not tell anything about any group of people. 6/
