Black men only make up 6% of the U.S. population. In 2015, the year after Michael Brown was murdered by a white police officer in Ferguson... Black men accounted for 40%, of 60 unarmed deaths. These numbers don’t suggest anything. These stats are very succinct and very clear.

UNARMED Black men are SEVEN TIMES MORE LIKELY to be fatally shot by police. HOW is this possible!?! For those who say it has nothing to do with race.... This would suggest that Black men alone, are somehow more innately violent and criminal.

Until you revisit the history of violence in this country even before, and after it’s actual inception. Two hundred and fifty plus years of chattel slavery. One hundred plus years of Jim Crow, and the horrific violent acts, acted out towards Blacks by whites.

And, these horrific violent acts weren’t just acted out towards Blacks by whites, but also acted out towards Native Americans by whites. Even when you look at it from a global perspective. Whites, or Europeans have committed acts of violence across the globe against Black

people, and every other race and ethnicity. Even against themselves. White on white crime. But, let’s get back to our original question. How is it possible, that Black men are fatally shot by police at such a disproportionate rate? I would have to say, the history in this

country of how Black people have been seen and treated is a direct cause and effect for these stats. If we started out as “property”, and this country has never really seen Black people as human... if that psyche has been imbedded in the minds of generations of whites in this

country it but all makes sense. This began with trying to understand why unarmed Black men are more disproportionately fatally shot by the police. But, what it
