My passport expired, and I have tickets to Europe leaving in about 7 weeks. What the hell do I do? I know it's unlikely that I'll get to go, but I'm trying to maximize my chances. Should I send it in and hope for the best? Wait and hope they'll re-open expedited service?

Okay, sounds like I'm fucked, there's no way I'm getting the passport back in time. Followup question: can I, as a dual US/Romanian citizen, leave and re-enter the US on a Romanian passport? Or at least just leave and then figure out re-entry later?

Another question: right now, expedited passport services are shut down. So do I send in my passport the normal way and hope it gets dealt with before 7 weeks from now (or that I can switch it to expedited service once they already have it), or do I hold onto it and hope...
