/ Historic moment for cycling in Toronto: City Council votes 23-2 to build protected bike lanes from Bloor and Runnymede to Danforth and Dawes, as well as along University, Dundas, River, Brimley and so many other streets. Simply incredible. #ActiveTO #BikeTO
/ A special thank you to Mayor @JohnTory and Councillors @BradMBradford @joe_cressy @m_layton @anabailaoTO @PaulaFletcherTO @JohnFilionTO for all you& #39;ve done for cycling in Toronto. So excited to see @TO_Transport& #39;s work over the next few months.
/ So many people have advocated for these streets for so many years. Thank you to organizations like @CycleToronto @BellsOnBloor @TCATonline @DavidSuzukiFDN @880Cities and many who came before them. It& #39;s an incredible achievement.
/ It& #39;s also a bewildering one. We pushed and we pushed and we pushed for so many years and faced incredible resistance. And then along comes a microscopic killer bug that flips so much of our lives upside down.
/ The bicycle can& #39;t do everything, but it shows its subtle powers yet again by being a near perfect mode of transportation for this new pandemic era.
/ COVID-19 has killed thousands of people across Canada. 2 million Canadians lost their jobs in Apr alone. Deficits are skyrocketing. Mental health issues are growing.
We have to find ways to get back to a sense of normal. The bicycle is one lovely little part of the solution.
