I've been wanting to write this thread for a while now. I think over the past few months I've noticed this behavior increase so I can't help but keep my mouth shut.

This thread is about how Black and Latinx claim to support each other in medicine and tech but they really don't!
About a month ago I tweeted how I was upset that I didn't know that Drift was founded by a Latinx founder. I had been using intercom (a competing company) for years with @DocSpace. Though it was only $99 a month that was $99 that I could have given back to my Latinx community.
Let's make one thing clear though. It's not like they needed my $99 dollars. Drift is a kick ass company doing big things. But in a space where Latinx serve as fillers or percentages of percentages, I would have preferred to give my money to them over a company like intercom.
Now what do I mean by Latinx and Black folks not truly supporting each other in tech or medicine?

Well we know who hold positions of power. We also know if we want to get a seat at the table we must cater to those folks in power. And they're not giving up their seat for you. 👇🏾
So in order to eat that means you probably got to step over TONS of people who look like you. It's part of the game and has been part of the game that we all somehow are willing to play in.

It's WRONG and it has to end. The only way around it is to create a new table. 👇🏾
But this isn't how it goes down. We don't want new tables. We want to sit at their's. Doing so = validation.

I've seen Latinx/Black physicians align themselves with folks in tech or physician orgs that have no ethics or openly support policies that maintain structural racism.
Yet they blindly adopt these orgs because they desperately want to be accepted and offered a seat at their table.

All the while ignoring the new dishes (aka new products created by those Latinx/Black in tech or medicine) to support the strength and growth of the new table.
I've heard the excuse that the talent isn't the same. That Black and Latinx aren't creating differentiating product to win their business or have them consider trying a new dish.

But how can we learn, iterate, and improve without the early support? It's fake woke. Fake support.
How can we compare folks with millions and in positions of power to those with pennies and with no positions of power. It's wrong and it's only an excuse or lie people tell themselves that what they're doing is right.

It's being fake woke and fake support. It's until I make it.
