When we riot, when we use violence we give them every reason to hold in their minds the perception that they already have, that we are a violent people, reckless & angry people. Peace protests achieved more in the civil rights movement than riots did.
So we can boycott until we're heard, we can go out in large numbers and protest but when we become violent against each other and the guys in blue, then people get injured, chaos ensues, race is politicised and the conversation stops.
What we also must be willing to do is accept in some parts that most people are not racist, there are some messed up racist people and there are dumb people who do stupid things that are not racially motivated.
We also must acknowledge what the effects are as painting every incident involving a person of colour and an officer (white) as an issue of race instead of police brutality. I say this with no doubt that some incidents may be racially motivated, the issue with Gorge certainly
certainly feels like one. However, sticking to the original point of this thread, I urge us to review our vision of riotous protest; violence would only begat violence, so then how do we protest, how to we sound our voices?
I'd say this, don't leave it up to our emotionally charged activists, but instead seek council from those willing to seek and obtain a solution to our issues. If you unfollow me after this thread, do your thing lol
