Busy day for PG&E! A hearing with Judge Alsup this morning, and now @californiapuc is going to vote on approving its Chapter 11 plan. Also, PG&E Corp CFO Jason Wells is testifying at the bankruptcy court. CPUC livestream here: http://www.adminmonitor.com/ca/cpuc/voting_meeting/20200528/
Public commenters are urging commissioners not to approve PG&E’s plan. “Whatever new catastrophe gets perpetrated on the people of California will be your responsibility if you OK their reorganization plan today.”
Meanwhile, at the bankruptcy court, a fire victim lawyer is asking CFO Wells about PG&E investors making profits by buying discounted claims. “Fire victims are getting stock instead of cash,” and those investors will get billions in profits, he says.
PG&E CFO Wells is asked whether he agrees with Judge Alsup’s statement that PG&E can’t safely deliver power to California. He says he disagrees. “We have embarked on one of the most ambitious programs to mitigate the risk… and I believe we’re seeing the results of that program.”
Public comment is still going on at the CPUC, where a caller is telling commissioners his house burned down in the 2017 Nuns Fire and his dad barely escaped. “I think it’s pretty clear at this point that PG&E is really built to serve the investors and not the people,” he says.
. @WilliamBAbrams, a survivor of the 2017 Tubbs Fire, is questioning PG&E’s CFO Jason Wells at the bankruptcy hearing now. Abrams asks if the possibility that PG&E could cause a future wildfire will impact the feasibility of its plan.
Wells says PG&E’s fire mitigation work and the wildfire fund created by AB 1054 make the reorg plan financially feasibly.
Abrams asks if Wells is aware that ratepayers and fire victims are concerned about PG&E’s ability to manage fire risks relative to its reorg plan.Wells says he doesn’t “understand the question as it relates to the relevance of the plan.”
Abrams asks Wells about a CPUC resolution that states PG&E isn’t effectively allocating resources to initiatives that will reduce wildfire risks. Wells: “I disagree with that characterization.”
