putting together a thread of information, explanations, and things you can do to support #blacklivesmatter :
a disclaimer before i start that i am WHITE, and do not want to speak over black people in any way. i'm mostly making this thread so i can pin it on my account and not lose these resources, but you're obviously welcome to share
I'll start by embedding some other threads I've seen: https://twitter.com/tpwkhollands/status/1265757092473954306
& this one: https://twitter.com/byersfilms/status/1265768645990526988?s=20
here's a thread of petitions to sign to help raise awareness and show your support! if you need a us zip code, you can dm me for mine, otherwise there's some other us zip codes dropped in the replies i believe https://twitter.com/kiwiscigarettes/status/1265767579739512833?s=20
educating yourself is also critical. here's a google doc with books, articles, movies, & twitter accounts to look through. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1BRlF2_zhNe86SGgHa6-VlBO-QgirITwCTugSfKie5Fs/mobilebasic
this organization has a really great website about what police brutality is, some potential policy solutions to it, and how to help fight for those policies to be put in place. i haven't read thru their entire site yet but it looks good https://www.joincampaignzero.org/
re: policy solutions, if you live in the us i would highly recommend contacting your representatives from the federal to local level asking for concrete actions from them to help end police brutality. the us capitol switchboard # is (222) 224-3121. only call if you're american.
if you have the means, donating is good. (some of these links may require you to be american to donate. if you're not, please read the fine print before donating to make sure it's okay).

here's the #blacklivesmatter official donation page: https://secure.actblue.com/donate/ms_blm_homepage_2019
minnesota freedom fund is a bail fund based out of the twin cities, where a lot of the protests are currently happening. donating to them could help pay for the bail of someone arrested while protesting. i donated already and encourage you to do the same https://minnesotafreedomfund.org/donate
here's a super short video i saw on my tl with a quick explanation of why it's not "all lives matter" right now that you can show to people who don't get it https://twitter.com/qtkoya/status/1265811836185636864?s=20
here's a thread that's just info on what's been happening recently, it's missing a decent amount of stuff but it's certainly a starting point https://twitter.com/seokdana/status/1265850234116005890?s=20
contacting the minneapolis pd to demand justice is another action you can take, here's how: https://twitter.com/diamondsky/status/1265844989495586816
this tweet has some actions, templates on what to say if you're contacting people, & organizations to support: https://twitter.com/COPALMN/status/1265745891593502728
quizzes to test for implicit (subconscious) biases you may not know you have:

(tw for death? i've only taken one of them, but there are some unsettling questions at the end) https://twitter.com/bisexualitea244/status/1265783446733012997
& here's a (growing!) twitter thread https://twitter.com/seauxalexia/status/1265349518616297472
if you still don't understand why this is such an important issue, take a second to look at this comparison of the police response to these two protests. notice anything different? white privilege is very real. https://twitter.com/meenaharris/status/1265530027485147137?s=20
that's all the resources i have at the moment. if anyone has seen a good training on how to contact representatives, feel free to send it to me, in the mean time i can work on one myself but i want to get the templates from black people so i don't speak over them on this
remember that activism is important outside of social media. tweeting about #blacklivesmatter is great, but what makes a real difference is taking concrete actions, talking to our family/friends about it, donating, pressuring the government for change, etc. https://twitter.com/YesikaStarr/status/1265848423023964163
hope this thread was helpful, feel free to add things in the replies. if anything i said/shared was incorrect please let me know so i can correct it.
