I asked my criminal justice professor (an ex cop of 20 yrs) how the police knew when something turned from a “protest” to a “riot”. How they knew whether to stand and protect protesters versus bring out riot gear and tear gas (1/?)
Her response? She didn’t know. 20 years of work and she didn’t know the protocol. She gave some bullshit answer of “if there’s a threat” then there would likely be riot gear. I mentioned that race was the determining factor. (2/?)
Angry white people=protest
Angry black people or other POC=riot
She became uncomfortable and immediately said what she always said when students brought up the fucked up system. “It’s up to you guys to change it.” (3/?)
How she “doesn’t know” how it can be changed but how the young people need to do it. At first it seemed inspiring. Then it was absolutely angering. After 20 years working for a racist institution and a graduate degree in how the system works (4/?)
And you still claim to not know its immense faults? How it was created on the foundations of slavery?
This is why we say ACAB
An ex cop who acknowledges that we can do something to change the system yet wants nothing to do with the revolution (5/?)
Abolish the police and abolish prisons. George Floyd should be alive today. Thousands of innocent black Americans should be alive today. There is no way to fix a system created to silence and oppress minorities. The only way is to rid of it completely.
