Not everyone can afford to live as an aspiring writer. Do you know how privileged you have to be to even consider that? Bills still have to be paid. Nobody stops writing (even if temporarily) bc they “were only in it for the money.” They stopped bc they have to eat. FFS.

It’s not rude or dishonest to have a conversation with a spouse or friend, and say “you need to find a way to make sustainable income” BUT still support their hobby. That’s right, a hobby. That’s all it will ever be for most. If it turns into more, great.

Most people who paint in their spare time aren’t doing so with the goal of becoming a professional artist. They paint because they enjoy it. Some get very good & even sell works. Maybe more writers should think this way and just create and not worry about the dreams of career.
