It was the weirdest feeling yesterday, amongst all of what's going on, I was mowing my lawn and a cop pulls up in front of my house. He said that my neighbors called to report someone illegally parking in front of my house without a permit, and obviously no one was (1/9)
He came up to me, and was a bit confused given that my family's car clearly had a sticker on it, and we were parked in front of our house. We had a joke about the situation and he left to go speak to my neighbors who called it in. (2/9)
Not once did I feel threatened or endangered by him, and nowhere did the situation ever escalate. I'd imagine that if we didn't have a permit he would've written the ticket, handed it to me or put in on the car and left. That's what makes this entire situation so difficult (3/9)
For me. Because I've only ever had good interactions with the police. I got pulled over when I first got my license and was driving my friend illegally, and instead of suspending my license for 6 months, the cop let me go. They've always been great to me so it's confusing (4/9)
To see everything that's happened in Minnesota, and across the US. It was shocking when I heard about how the cops in Fairfield racially profiled a kid just a few years older and tried to arrest him while he was walking to his own home. I was always under (5/9)
The impression that since Fairfield generally is a pretty sound and smart town, that we didn't have these issues, there weren't racists here. I can't imagine the feeling that Black Americans get when being stopped or pulled over because mine isnt fear. (6/9)
I wish everyone could have the positive interactions that I've had, and it pains me to think that they were only this way because I was white. It pisses me off beyond belief that a man can't go for a run every day like I do, can't go to the grocery store like I do. (7/9)
That they can't do all the things I take for granted as a white American, without fear that they could be the next one. Its infuriating that people feel that there is something so arbitrary like race, that they feel puts them above another human being. (8/9)
I stand with everyone peacefully protesting in Minnesota, and across the country, in the hopes that everyone, no matter race, religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation can live the same free life that I'm afforded today. (9/9)
