Alexander Lacazette – Debunking the myth of a ‘fraud’

This thread will explain why Arsenal’s prolific number 9 is still fit to wear the shirt at the ripe age of 29.
Not better than Giroud’
Lacazette was signed in 2017 for a record fee of £46m, to replace Oliver Giroud. During Giroud's time at Arsenal, he had only amassed 0.556 goal contributions per game whilst Lacazette has amassed 0.59 goal contributions per game. An upgrade? I think so.
Limited
Whether it had been as a sole 9 up top, or as a deep lying forward Lacazette has excelled. His numbers at Lyon prove that he can do the job if put up front as a sole striker, averaging over half a goal contribution per game. Whereas, his time at Arsenal has seen him take
a backseat and revert to a DLF and has proven to be a success thus far putting up 66 goal contributions in 114 games. Limited? I think not.
Poor stats
Despite Lacazette’s current season being poor, positives can be taken from the season before in which the numbers that he put on display despite playing in an unfamiliar role shows the amount of quality he has in his locker. Lacazette finished with a mighty 19 goals
and 13 assists, clearly eclipsing LFC's Firmino who only put up a meagre 16 goals and 8 assists. With a 7.17 whoscored rating he finished as Arsenal’s highest-rated player, well deserving of the club's PoTS award that he received. The 18/19 season is a sign of what we can expect.
Useless in front of goal
Lacazette’s fire power in front of goal cannot be ignored. With one of the best minutes to goals ratio in Europe (in 2017). He is incredible in front of goal, clearly seen by the fact that he has scored 110 goals despite having an xG of 94.3.
It is only a matter of time before he regains his confidence and puts up the numbers he was putting up before.
Away form
It is true that Lacazette’s away form is more than shocking. However, this should not be blamed on the player solely. A look at Arsenal’s results away from home shows this is more of a team issue. 22 losses in 51 matches could be attributed to the lack of
effective tactics used away, hindering not only the performance of all Arsenal players. In 9 away matches, he has a 6.38 av rating on whoscored, whilst at home his average rating is 7.4 clearly highlighting that the issue of his poor away form does not lie with him solely.
Not a Big Game player
Alexandre Lacazette’s record against the top 6 is astonishing. Against the top 6 sides, he has netted 13 goal contributions. Compared to fellow teammate Aubameyang, he has netted 4 more goal contributions. Crucial goals against Spurs,
Liverpool, Valencia (3!), Napoli, Chelsea over the last few seasons have cemented his status as Arsenal’s go-to guy in big games. Need a goal in a big game? Who you gonna call? Alex Lacazette.
Has no worth
Lacazette’s influence on the club exists beyond the pitch. As our third captain, he gets along well with the players at the club and is a force in keeping the positive atmosphere at the club. He is a positive mentor to the youngsterswith experience in the PL.
And damn, he’s just a handsome lad, with an amazing personality and cool celebrations. Who would not love that at their club?
Although Lacazette might not be firing on all cylinders, it is our duty as fans to keep supporting him. On his 29th, I wish one of the top strikers in the league a Happy Birthday 😊
