i will never forget when my mom said, right before trump was elected, that she believed racism no longer exists. she has since backtracked on this statement, but adding “i guess i was just wishing there wasn’t”, and “i’ve just never seen it”.

while george floyd, sandra bland, trayvon martin, and many, many others have been targeted and murdered by white cops. if only they could just “wish” racism away.

she’s a registered democrat, dislikes trump, but grew up with an extremely racist father in a very conservative part of the country. it was easy for her to ignore, because it didn’t effect her.

shitty people come from all walks of life; gender, sexuality, race, class, diff political sides, etc,. bigotry is learned. it’s our job to unlearn societal and familial prejudices & biases. but it seems like most americans are not up for that challenge..
