I find it touching that God doesn& #39;t refer to people as "neighbours and strangers", but rather as "near neighbours and far neighbours".

In the translation of the ayah above, I think "be good" is not entirely accurate.
It says something closer to "act with ihsan", which is much more than merely doing good.
Act with *excellence* - motivated by the perfection of God (rather than taqwa: acting out of fear of God).
