Only now realizing it’s mentstrual hygiene day. I hated my period for 30 years. Now I ❤️ it. My period tells me about state of my body & overall wellness. My period forces me to slow down & go within. My period links me to all of the women in my bloodline who’ve come before me.
We are taught to hate our periods because health care for women is seen as marginal. We hate our periods because women and girls are forced to function as though they do not exist. Why can’t we stay at home, rest, heal, nourish, and build ourselves while we are mentstruating?
I am grateful for the work done by @drtlaleng, for the work of feminist scholars and activists, for the work young black feminists do on here everyday to normalize speaking about sex, sexuality and periods. This is life changing stuff. Destigmatization = healing work.
