đŸ§” 8 Repeated Concepts found in advice about productivity

(b/c there's so much conflicting advice out there!)

From @Freakonomics with @CDuhigg https://freakonomics.com/podcast/how-to-be-more-productive/
Before I launch into these 8 I just want to say
there's SO MUCH conflicting advice out there
so I was so curious to see how this researcher put together the COMMONALITIES in what people talked about
[1] MOTIVATION
making choices that we are in control of enhances that feeling of motivation

{ PhD Supervisors, listen up! }
{ Fellow students -- learning to advocate for a gradual increase in decision making in YOUR project is also important }
[2] FOCUS
a mental model for filtering out what's not important so you can focus on what is

{ me, shouting into the ether: SETTING BOUNDARIES SO YOU PROTECT YOUR MAIN INTENTIONS OF THE YEAR }
{ me, intensifying: SAYING YES TO ONE THING IS SAYING NO TO ANOTHER }
[3] GOAL SETTING
have 2 kinds of goals
a) stretch goal (long-term, future thinking to get you eggCITED)
b) specific bite sized next step you can do next

(is this a poem? does this count as #micropoetry? )
[4] DECISION MAKING
entertain multiple probabilities and be able to discern the most likely one

{ AS AN EXPERT RUMINATOR I AM good at part A but still learning part B. Not having part B gives me HELLA ANXIETY }
[5] INNOVATION
creativity & the ability to pair clichés and old tricks into new ones adaptable to new ones

{ My best example of this is being able to explain what I do to a 5 year old. Subreddit ELI5 [explain like I'm 5] is a great spot to try this out }
[6] DATA
⚡the HARDER it is for your brain to absorb the info, the stickier it is in your brain

{ this is a new concept to me that I'd never heard before! But it makes sense. I still remember how bees navigate using circadian rhythms and have 0 need for this knowledge 🐝 }
[7] MANAGING OTHERS
best way to solve a problem is to get the people closest to the problem to solve it

{ read: stop trying to solve all issues by yourself b }
[8] TEAMS
who is in the team > how the team interacts

{ I've heard conflicting thoughts on this so I'm surprise this came out as a 'commonality' }
