Someone asked a few months ago, "What's the difference between a resume and a CV?" My answer was, "It's the same -- some people use different terms to describe the same thing." It was oversimplified and I am sorry. Let me explain this.
First thing first. Most advertisements use the words interchangeably. What these advertisements mean is a short, brief profile. Something like 1-2 pages. That' all. This is what we call a resume. A CV is a bit longer (3 or more pages) and contains a significantly more details.
If you are a fresh graduate or with less than 10 years of experience, and applying for a junior or a mid-level management position, a resume will do. Keep it to a maximum of two pages.
However, if you're applying for a senior management position (CEO, COO) or a lecturer, you might need a CV (more than two pages). You may want to list academic papers published or other significant achievements. I hope this clarifies. Good luck with your job search!
