I get why people are angry at the NYT dek on Larry Kramer's obit. It's a bad look for them & there wasn't enough context.
OTOH, it takes nothing away from Larry's tremendous life to acknowledge the ways he was abusive, not just to power, but to allies and friends, as recounted multiple times in these loving but real remembrances: https://www.thebody.com/article/activists-friends-remember-gay-aids-activist-writer-larry-kramer
And that pattern & his inability to change it had particular impact on younger gay men, as @peterstaley says so well: "To this day, gay men carry the added burden of a society that sexually shames us. Larry played a part in this."
We owe this honesty to him and ourselves and the movement.
