One of the most emotional speeches given in recent times and a new reasoning was given today that we are seeing more Covid-19 Positives because we have been testing more. Yes no one is denying the fact that we are testing more. But is that the reason. No let us look at the claims
Except on May1st where we did 9615 tests all through the days till 28th May we have been consistently doing 10K above/everyday Highest on 7th May at 14,194. On average we are testing 11,981 tests. So From May 1 to May 28 almost testing consistently a little above 10K tests daily
The tests when factored to Million population for the day also show the same trend which clearly means we did not have significant spikes of tests going up or down from May 1 to May 28. So falling under we are doing more tests whenever +ves go up is only partial story.
Now look at the +ves confirmed during the same period. One could clearly see for similar number of tests our +ve cases are a clear spike. Lowest number on May 1st with 250 +ves & highest of 827. In fact, on 7th May where we did 14,194 tests our +ves was only 580.
Now look at the frequency of recording a +ve. On 1st May we needed 47 tests to record a Covid-19 +ve. While we keep doing the same 11K/12K tests/day the frequency of +ve keeps coming down consistently breached the 1+ve/20tests for the last 10 days with lowest being 14 on May 27th
Yes we keep testing more. Not denying the fact. But under this metrics what we fail to acknowledge is, more people have been infected. This, taken along with 80% success of lockdown for the last 60+ days is perhaps a community infection that we fail to acknowledge.
Not to mention, increasing number of cases being asked to stay home & get treated, increasing number of children under 12 being infected, gradual increase of death ratio clearly says we are seeing ONLY the tip of iceberg. Our strategies must start with this understanding
