The first castle was built on the site of an old mill, over the waters of the Cher River. The current palace was built by the architect Philibert Delorme, and its history is associated with seven women of strong personality, two of whom are France's main queens.
King Henry II, who offered the palace as a gift to his lover, Diane de Poitiers. She was the great madam of the château and to prove her power ordered them to make a coat of arms by mixing the first letter of Caterine de Medici's name with that of King Henry II, forming a D
Unfortunately with the king's death, Caterine poured out Diane of the castle and make that place her favorite royal place, expanding the garden and giving big parties.
With time the royals started to do competitions to know who had the most beautiful garden, it became the tik tok challenge of the time lol.
With Caterine's death the castle was passed to her daughter-in-law,
Louise de Lorraine-Vaudémont, Henrique III's wife. There she received the news of her's husband murder and, depressive, she started to walk on the runners, dressed in black.

curiosity: the château is scenaryo to episode 5 of Violet Evergarden. The episode is about a princess called Charllote that will get married with the other nation prince, Damian, to make a peace accord.
The perfection that they made all make me so happy! *-*

Curiosity 2: during the first war the gallery was used like an enfermary and during the seconds war it was a means of escape from the area occupied by the Nazis on one side of the River Cher, to the free area of Vichy on the opposite bank.
