It's right to not watch the video of #GeorgeFloyd b/c you don't want to incur further trauma.

It's wrong to not watch the video of #GeorgeFloyd b/c you don't want to believe America could really be like this, and has been like this, to too many black people for too long. 1/
Put differently: I'd encourage folks (esp. black folks) to protect their mental & emotional health.

Proverbs 4:23
"Keep your heart with all vigilance,
for from it flow the springs of life."

But if you hold to a fantasy that this country isn't really what she is...2/
At least not to all her citizens, then I'd discourage you from protecting that delusion. That narrative needs disruption. It'd be good to consider why you might resist and avoid such a disruption. And it'd be good to think on why many folks don't have the luxury of doing so. 3/
Privilege is the option to think that just b/c something isn't a problem for you, that means it's not a problem.

But "if one part of the body suffers, all suffer together." (1 Cor. 12:26)

If one part of your body is struggling, it all struggles. 4/
Two black artists' speaking from the struggle:

"I don't hate America, I just demand she keeps her promises."

- @prophiphop

"I love America more than any other country in this world, and, exactly for this reason, I insist on the right to criticize her."

- James Baldwin 5/
Prop's album CROOKED, and the track title, is helpful listening any day but it's especially helpful in THESE trouble days: https://open.spotify.com/album/3HmkL2AENDW4XO9Da0NGy9

"Word round town is y'all don't know why we frownin"

And would we dare try to explain this death by looking at a man's background?! @mrmedina asked this after Mike Brown was killed.

"How can people, who know themselves to be lawbreakers saved by grace, say:
'Well, if he had just followed the rules he'd be OK.' ??" 7/
Come, Lord Jesus! 9/9
