Imagine if, instead of trynna make them see we’re equal, we created our own.
Cause let’s be honest, violence isn’t the answer but peace not getting us anywhere either. The problem with this civil rights revolution is that we trynna add ourselves into an equation that don’t want us.
When America had its revolution, it wasn’t to join Britain. When Haiti revolted it wasn’t to join France. Nor was Australia to Britain. Nor India or the African colonies. My point is, why are we revolting to join instead of create.
We all know the story of Black Wall Street. A completely self sufficient, Black community that was burned to the ground by white people. One of the greatest tragedies of black history.
But even though it got burned down, we forget that it was massively successful. That’s the whole reason they burned it down!
We already have HUGELY successful businesses that bring in billions of dollars (e.g. clothing, hair, makeup, entertainment, etc.) imagine if we just kept that concentration of wealth within one community, like they did with Black Wall Street.
Imagine the environment we could create if we took over in politics.. the legislation and changes we could make to protect black people while also giving ourselves a chance to grow.
White people only got a head start because we runnin their race. But we got the resources to make our own race.
If we could just come together as a community, and do for ourselves and be self sufficient, we could actually make a change.
But this all hinges on our ability to truly unify. Think about it. Almost every effort against black people since civil rights can be summed up to be solely against the unity and conformity of black people.
From counterprotests to disbanding the black panther to MLK’s assassination to planting crack to mass imprisonment to every other injustice against black people, the major goal has always been to keep us from being together.
You see this in our families and neighborhoods and educations and lives. The biggest threat to our livelihoods is the separation that’s in our community.
So what if instead of moving up in the world, we built our communities up. What if we brought prosperity to our neighborhoods and made Compton the new Bel-Air.
That’s how we create change in my opinion. Not through protests or riots or violence or peace. Though all these have their place, they’re only catalysts to the work of truly creating a community where we can thrive and do what we need to do so we can be good.
