White people, I know a lot of you are tired. I’m tired.

The pandemic, the loss of work, our political situation. It’s exhausting.

But I’m asking you, white folks, to take a step back for a second.

Because despite everything shutting down, white supremacy has not stopped. /1
Ahmaud Arbery, Brianna Taylor, George Floyd. Not to mention what happened in Central Park.

And these are just a few examples of what happens every day in this country, pandemic or no pandemic.

So I ask you to take a second to try putting yourself in a black person’s shoes. /2
Try to put yourself in the shoes of a black boy in Minneapolis. A black boy who just saw a man from his community murdered on the news. And then went on social media and saw the murder again, and again. /3
Try to imagine the sadness and the anger. I don’t think we fully can, but we can try. We need to try.

Imagine going out into the streets to protest with your friends, because you’re upset and because everyone is out there.

Imagine your friends start looting a Target. /4
These friends are just boys, like you, 13 or 14, but the media probably calls them young men.

You take something from the Target, because everyone else is, and then you go home.

The next day you see people on the news and online condemning you. Condemning your friends. /5
And so many of the people talking about the looting had nothing to say when that man was murdered by the police.

So many of those people calling you a criminal for taking something worth maybe $100 from a Target don’t think it was really a crime that a man’s like was taken. /6
So white people, just try to put yourself in that headspace for a minute.

Our job is not to discuss and analyze and give our input about how black folks respond to the police murdering them.

Our job is to do everything WE can to end white supremacy.
