Budapest-Warsaw in times of Covid: usually a one-hour flight or overnight train. With Polish airports closed and Cz/Slovak closed for transit it was a longer trip... I started at Budapest Keleti on Monday lunchtime...
Took the train to Vienna, then Linz. Pretty empty Austrian train with super-fast wifi, stopped for 40 mins at small Austrian border station for document check
Then Linz-Nuremberg and a few hours sleep in an empty Nuremberg before early morning train to Berlin
Train across Berlin to Ostkreuz and then another tiny train to Kustrin-Kietz on the Polish border - the only somewhat busy train on the way.
Then had to walk 5km passed abandoned former E German barracks close to the border, and across the Oder to the town of Kostrzyn. Brief and polite border check of temperature and documents allowing my entry to Poland as a journalist.
Then time for a fairly unappetising pizza and a six-hour train to Warsaw, arriving at 11pm, 33 hours, six trains and €150 later. Quite a pleasant trip.
