There's so much shit I avoid doing to avoid conflicts with white ppl

If I left my cash in the car I will offer to leave my cellphone while I go get it so they don't accuse me of theft. I won't enter an apartment complex until a friend lets me in or even my own until I find my own key.

If I'm lost, I do not ask for help. I don't carry a purse or bag into stores. When I lived in a fancy white neighborhood I avoided being outside for too long or being seen getting my own packages.

I don't particularly care to learn how to drive, because of cops.

I shouldn't have to calculate my every move for my own safety. No one should. I'm sure all these precautions wouldn't help either way if I encounter a racist cop or Amy C00per. They'd find something I did to be wrong. They'd find me suspicious because of racism.

My intent is not to say that the way I live life in fear is the right way to avoid conflict: it's not. There's no way to avoid it when racism exists. Every black person I know takes precautions. And they can will still be fucking shot in their sleep or accused of resisting arrest
