#SuicideSquad #Spoilers

I’m a big believer in not losing your mind over a twist in comics when things will likely be explained a few months down the line...

*However*

The twist in this week’s Suicide Squad just doesn’t sit right with me at all. My Ted Kord this is not.
I can tell Taylor is swinging for the fences with a radical new take with this Suicide Squad run - something I applaud him for, even if it’s not the route I would have gone with. The title needed innovation and he’s bringing it, as well as a new generation of characters.
But this reveal is frustrating for so many reasons, not least because I’ve seen Taylor write Ted before and he’s done so with brilliant understanding.

He gets the joyful fun of the character and the importance of his relationship with Booster Gold.
I’m hoping that my initial gut reaction is proven wrong over time - like I said, Taylor’s a smart writer who clearly has a plan. I just hope that plan involves a genuine exploration of Ted’s moral complexities, rather than just a sudden heel turn for shock value.
Side note: this is probably made weirder by the fact we’ve seen Ted in full hero mode recently, both in Heroes in Crisis and (I believe) The Terrifics. If we hadn’t seen him since Rebirth, maybe this would sit easier. As if Flashpoint had fundamentally altered him. But it hasn’t.
Anyway, this thread isn’t a condemnation of Taylor or his work or anything of the sort. Ultimately I’m glad he’s able to take big swings in mainline continuity. Instead, I hope my tone comes across as passionate, and adding to the conversation around the issue, not adding vitriol
