Thought : My 1st Thread. My analysis on some points at which government and law enforcement could have prevented then reacted appropriately to the death of George Floyd, and failed :
1) Following the death of Ahmaud Arbury racial tensions were high in the country. Police departments around the country should have warned officers each day to make sure they did not throw gas on that fire. If this happened in MN, they didn't listen.
2) After George Floyd was killed in MN the police department and prosecutors should have acted quickly to review body cam and easily available social media videos of the alleged murder. Firing the officers was not enough.
3) The officer directly involved in Floyd's killing should have been arrested before the night was through. Negligent Homicide would have been a good starting point and the public could have been told the charges may be amended as more evidence was reviewed.
4) Police response the first night of protests that turned criminal in nature was not sufficient to set boundaries for what would be considered acceptable under the law. Day 2 began with a more inflamed public, setting the stage for a more out of control situation in the evening.
5) Prosecutors wasted the chance to file charges at the beginning of day 2 after Floyd's death. Sometimes investigations need to be fast tracked to maintain peace in a community. This was such a time. Non-lawyers can see a man was killed wrongly. The city had an obligation to act
6) The city failed to send the correct message that justice would be swift. Everyone knew the evening of day 2 was going to be ugly. One example alone shows how the police did nothing to stop innocent business owners from bearing the burden of paying for the City's inaction.
7) Watch the video of the local Target store. The entire store was looted, destroyed, then set on fire. Police inaction to quell the illegal aspects of what started as righteous indignation at the criminal death of a man in police custody caused the out of control rampaging.
8) Now, as day 3 after the killing of George Floyd begins, an arrest will be seen as only happening because of the pillaging of the city. Government failed to "read the room". The response has been appallingly slow, a city is burning because of it.
9) A quick arrest would have stopped the violence before it started. Government in Minnesota FAILED.
