Kids See Ghosts by Kanye West & Kid Cudi : An in-depth thread

The second anniversary approaches but it's taken far less than two years for the album to gain a universally-adored status within the rap community. I can't say I've seen any tier lists for 2018 without Kids See Ghosts right at the top.

The themes of recovery from tragedy on this thing are expressed so succinctly that I imagine it must've immediately taken up Blonde's place as "music to cry and/or reflect to" for many people,but I think more than what it represents,the album also just sounds great.

It's probably got the best production of the 2018 Ye blitzkrieg (although I personally lean more towards Daytona bc of it's distinctive Ye fingerprints). It's psychedelic,it's energetic and it's also very easy on the ears.

Not to mention it'd got some of Cudi's best singing,ever. He's on pitch all throughout this thing like on the opener and on the centrepiece Reborn (more on that later).

Reborn is arguably the most popular song of the album,and it's easy to see why. It's a quiet,relaxing tour-de-force of victory over adversity,whether said adversity is referring to challenges in life or to us being our own worst enemies.

I wasn't a fan of either back in 2016 when they had beef but I imagine it must've hurt for people back then to see these two turn away from each other and it must feel good now to see them back together at the top of their musical game.

And speaking of musical game I do think this has become kind of a last hope for a lot of Kanye fans that he's still capable of making good music even though evidence is piling up to the contrary. I think that's very much a reason why it has such an elevated status around here.

But regardless of their musical future, Kids See Ghosts remains some of Kanye's best work post-MBDTF,and some of Cudi's best work period. What they've got is I think too valuable to throw away,and I definitely expect them to return sometime (even if it's gonna be half Christian).
