This crisis really does expose how many of my fellow academics really dislike their students. We all know that face to face teaching is highly unlikely for the autumn term. Why resist learning how to teach online well? Why should our standard be ‘good enough’?
Please understand that your commitment to mediocrity will mean that our most vulnerable students—who were already having a hard time pre-pandemic—will fall further behind or leave higher education completely. Perhaps that’s the point? 🤷🏾‍♀️
Learning to teach online is not synonymous with nefarious neoliberal reforms. These reforms can be achieved regardless of the mode of our teaching. We can still protect our working conditions *and* develop new ways of building community with students in the midst of this crisis.
