I have stopped myself tweeting this before now because I thought people might feel uncomfortable. Then I realised if you can avoid conversations about the existence of racism because you feel uncomfortable, there is a problem.
If you are not incandescent with rage at what happened to George Floyd, there is a problem.

If you think the protests in response are too much, there is a problem.
If you “can’t imagine what it’s like...” there is a problem. You don’t have to imagine. It’s happening. The only thing is, it’s not happening to you.
If you “can’t bear to think about it...” there is a problem. You are privileged that you don’t have to think about it.
If you are “glad it doesn’t happen over here” there is a problem. It does happen over here. And that it’s happening anywhere should be enough to make you furious.
If you eyeroll or dismiss, in any other way, when somebody talks about their experiences of racism, there is a problem.

If you see your BAME mates as exotic creatures, you are fetishising them. There is a problem.
If you are silent when you witness racism in any form, there is a problem.

If you “don’t see colour”, there is a problem.
Racism is a very real problem. I get that there’s a lot to be angry about. Add this to the list.
Speak out. Be an ally.
