So I've had the NHS covid tracking app for a few weeks now and while it's not going to jeopardise your privacy/data it's just really fuckin pointless 🙃
It relies on the user inputting their symptoms (ignoring asymptomatic ppl) and then supposedly tells others if they've been near someone with symptoms
But what it doesn't do is tell you if you may have touched a surface a symptomatic person may have touched (eg a railing or gate) and it doesn't tell you how long you have been in contact with a symptomatic person (the longer contact, the more likeliness of constracting covid)
The Isle of Wight was also a really disproportionate and shit place to test it because the population is pretty small considering the size of the island and we haven't had many cases at all. It's easy to socially distance bc of the population size.
So very few people have actually inputted (is that even a word) info about their symptoms into the app (because so few ppl here have them, because we're not densely populated) so there isn't really any evidence it works at all. It's a waste of gov funding....
.... And it puts the responsibility disproportionately on users of the app and not on...you know... Government legislation eg an actual functioning lockdown. Inevitably users will forget to turn on the app/log symptoms and the gov will be void of responsibility.
