Meta descriptions are the brief snippet you’ll see under a page’s title in the SERPs. It’s used to describe what users will find when they link on the page. 2/9
Meta descriptions are also an ad to try and get people to click the link.

So, entice users in. Give them a reason to click. 3/9
Sometimes question and answer meta descriptions perform best. This is where you ask a question in the meta title, then answer it in the meta description while still enticing people in.

You haven’t got a lot of space to work with here.

The ideal length is between 150-200 characters.

✴️Any longer and the meta description won’t fit.
✴️Any shorter and you’re missing a chance to do your page justice.

If you can, try and get your focus keyword at the beginning of your meta description.

You have so little characters, using them all on keywords is a waste. 6/9
🚫 Don’t use double quotes!

Google doesn’t recognise double quotes in meta descriptions. So if you use them, Google will cut them off.

For best practice, I’d avoid the quotes entirely. 7/9
Google may alter your meta descriptions. You should think of them as suggestions for what Google and the other search engines display.

They aren’t law – but if you don’t do them you’ll miss an opportunity for more clicks and traffic. 8/9
As long as the content is relevant and describes the page it’s leading to, you should be good.
