Reasons to why I am unsure who is the GOAT (a thread)

Ronaldo and Messi are, according to most, the greatest to ever play the beautiful game, in this thread I will be explaining my view on both and leave you to decide who is better (this is not made to discredit either GOAT) (this is also my first thread so sorry if it's shit )

My general consensus is that Messi has more natural ability and is more technically gifted, but Ronaldo has a better work ethic, conditioning and obsession with the sport, Messi is the Ferrari, Ronaldo is the engine

The eye test is clearly the most useful stat, here are some of there best games to watch if you want to see how unplayable both players are at their best

• Barcelona 4-1 Arsenal
• Portugal 3-3 Spain
• Barcelona 3-0 Liverpool
• Real Madrid 4-1 Juventus

Messi is haled by more footballers, ex-footballers and pundits as the greatest itw, so Messi is the best right? I don't think it's that simple

I am almost certain if a young, teenage Messi started his career on such a wim at sporting (or a team of their caliber) he would not be as good a player as he is today.
This is what drove Ronaldo imo, again if he started at Barcelona and didn't have to work as hard as he did...

...He wouldn't be playing at the same level he currently is, Ronaldo's work ethic is similar to that of Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan and Muhammad Ali, you could make a strong case to say Ronaldo is the greatest athlete of all time, and if it was all put on a plate for him I feel..

..He wouldn't be the Ronaldo hailed as the GOAT by many

Some of their greatest achievements (team and individual)

Ronaldo: 2 international trophies, champions league three-peat, most goals (active), most international goals (active), 2 premier league POTS (only done by two other players ever)

Messi: sextuple, most G/A this decade, 6 balon d'ors (most ever), 10 league titles, 6 golden boots (most ever)

There is so many more achievments and merits by these two people we are blessed enough to watch, that it wouldn't fit into one thread, so let's just enjoy the small amount of time they have left in their playing careers and appreciate the two greatest players ever
