The lack of attention being given to university students due to graduate this year or in fact for anyone due to enter the graduate market is concerning, and no i’m not talking about how sad it is that they’ve not had the finish to their final year they expected or that 1/
graduations and balls have been cancelled because we can understand why that’s happened. I’m talking about how every year we hear about how post grad depression affects thousands of students, yet at the best of times there is such little support for graduates. 2/
But there should be support in place, now more than ever. I have friends who had secured grad jobs that have now been pushed back or cancelled, friends who have housing contracts in new cities but no way of getting there or paying for their accommodation, friends who have been 3/
saving to go travelling and are now returning home to an environment where they lose their independence, friends who have flown home and don’t know when or if they will be able to afford to fly back for a future graduation and ALL of these incredible people have shown so much 4/
resilience already and i’m proud with how so far most people have reacted. But it is concerning, students are leaving a bubble with support services and stability and their identity as a student which they’ve had for 18+ years to enter ‘the real world’ with a 5/
shocking job market, debt, being away from friends and financial concerns. AT THE BEST OF TIMES THERE IS LITTLE SUPPORT AVAILABLE BUT NOW THERES ALSO A PANDEMIC TO MANAGE WHICH MAKES LIFE EVEN HARDER. 6/
To anyone in this position, please please please reach out for support if you need it. Post grad depression is real don’t suffer in silence, take care of yourselves and realise you really don’t need to know what the next step is going to be. YOU ARE FABULOUS AND U GOT THIS âœŒđŸœâœš
