Infosec has a lot of conversations like this:

"I did this cool thing!"
"Why did you reinvent the wheel?"

And the answer is almost always "Well I couldn't find the wheel."

Thinking about this quite a lot with a project I'm brainstorming.

Okay I see now that I shouldn't have used "reinventing the wheel" in this tweet. This has nothing to do with building variations of tools. It has everything to do with conference talks and people not citing prior work because it's so hard to find prior work.

I appreciate everyone who has feelings about the original tweet. I have not said, at any time, that I think people shouldn't build their own tools and systems. This is completely, 100%, unrelated to tools. I'm going to mute the thread now because notification anxiety.
