i dont want my voice as a non-black poc to overpower the opinions of black communities. however when i think of the recent events, i think the most pressing issue that needs immediate remedial are the lifes taken and the justice system that needs close scrutiny + https://twitter.com/arahitoshi/status/1265872641832947712
i discourage the use of aave to mock black people (or mocking in general) but unoffensive aave terms like bae and slay ? the qrt makes a good point about languages. i understand that murder of george floyd sparked a whole discussion about the treatment of black ppl in gen but
which problem is more pressing rn? the blatant oppression of black ppl enforced by the justice system and the fact that the murderers walk free and the cycle will never end and more lives will be taken unless we act to stop it once and for all,
or the use of aave? i completely agree with blocking the use of slurs but imo the policing of words that dont necessarily offend everyone and have become so integrated into internet culture and daily culture in general? just .. i feel like its taking away from the issue at hand +
i know for those of us who dont live in the states may feel a lil powerless since we cant rlly text our local govt about it or publicy protest . however what we can do is dismantle the anti-blackness in our communities by educating others on the struggles of black people +
and why we should show respect to those who have unjustly suffered for eons till this day. & also calling out people for slurs and stereotypes !! im p sure yall know someone who still thinks its cool to use the nword when theyre non-black...call em out yo
stating again that i, a nonblack poc, dont wish for my opinions to be of higher significance than the black ppl as theyre the ones suffering and their opinions would be more valuable. the reason i'm twting this on main is i just want to set up discussion so if anyone
would like to educate me on why we need to stop would be awesome!!! (politely please) i dont condone racism or colourism at all and do not mean for this thread to demean and belittle any struggle the black community face!
