I see a lot of tweets about hijab. Imma tell you it's history out of what I know.

In the beginning of Islam there was no order in Islam to cover up modestly.
The women of the family of the Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. would go outside and often would used to be harassed. Not because they were the women of the prophets family but because generally Arab culture was rowdy and it was a thing.
In Arab culture at the time it was common women would be harassed like that.

Then Allah sent a verse down ordering women to cover up. So the women of the prophet's family covered up modestly.
The reason behind it was so that the men in public could distinguish between the prophet's family and other women. That way they had no excuse of harassing them
The men used to act innocent after they were told they were the prophet's family. But now with this verse they had no excuse and no way they could get away with it if they continued to harass them
Qur'an is for all times and all places. Allah sent this commandment based on his own wisdom.

It isn't a repellent for extremely perverted men. It has its own wisdom behind it. It was sent to distinguish the Muslim women from the non believers.
So that if the men did harass the prophet's family they would have no excuse to get away with their behaviour.
Now in the 21st century the hijab's wisdom is still held by Allah. Women should dress modestly. Men should lower their gaze. It's a two way street.
I posted this thread to educate you on the history of hijab and why it was ordered on Muslims.

And my point was that it isn't nessecarily something to prevent pervy men as people think. It was to distinguish the Muslim women from non believers
And to be honest this works in non muslim societies somewhat well....

You will never see a Muslim girl in the west being catcalled or harassed sexually if she dresses modestly.

Racial harassment and sexual harassment is different.
