the line that GOT my blood to boil was "God softened our hearts to a special needs adoption"

no, He absolutely did not, because I'm pretty damn sure religions are big on the "treat others with love" thing, and Christianity is big on the "take in the cast out from society"
so let's get the obvious out of the way here:
these are white saviours

they *tried* to be Autism Saviours a la Autism Speaks, making the kid All Better (perhaps to show the healing powers of God?)

when that failed, they were done
I find it particularly insidious that a Christian couple adopted from an atheist nation first. which is another thing that makes me think "saviour."

let us never forget that adoption is a tool for genocide and forced conversion
but I'm not an adoptee, let alone a trans-continental adoptee, so that's as far as I'll take any narrowing eyes at the "white couple adopts from China"

but the Autism Mommy Bloggers, otoh... oh that's a ride
this is old news to anyone who's been in the autism community long enough, but for those who are new: Autism Mommy Bloggers are a toxic as fuck community who perpetuate martyr narratives around How Hard™️ raising autistic kids is, only made tolerable by monetization
they are the reason the "actually autistic" tag exists, because they crowded out autistic people with their voices as non-autistic parents in the "autism" tag

they are the reason almost no resources for autistic parents exist, because everyone assumes the parents are NT
hell, they've co-opted the phrase "autistic parent" so a lot of people have to resort to "parent who is autistic" just to make it clear they are not the NT Warrior Mommies monetizing their children

and after laying out all that, my reaction on this is "not surprised"
will this kid face absolute living hell in the foster care system because the foster care system is full of saviour parents trying to fix or monetize "defective" children and feed their fragile egos by having a child that is "hard" to parent?

yes
but I'm not surprised it happened. in fact, my first thought is relief she didn't kill him

I suppose that would've made it too hard to adopt a "normal" child from another country and continue the saviour narrative

if she had actually gotten treated for murder
because chances are she wouldn't have. manslaughter, neglect, aggravated assault—all common sentences. second degree murder, maybe. a few years in prison, maybe. being considered "not a danger to children" not out of the realm of possibility

I hope that kid (and all kids who are in this situation) get(s) therapy, because being abandoned twice to this degree is going to leave psychological scars.

honestly? I think the only thing that surprises me about this is the media attention
cause this happens all the time

and I really don't know what to feel other than grumpy it's only now getting noticed
