We wonder how many schools are preparing to support the specific trauma experienced by young people of colour due to COVID, and the even heavier weight that will be held by pupils on their return.

We’ve seen them witness a time where their loved ones are more likely to die...
...where they are more likely to be fined or suffer discriminate policing. They’ve seen more videos of black people being killed. Some have had significant issues with housing. Anxieties are high for family in low paid jobs and due to struggling with their education at home.
They’ve read stories about people of colour abused at work with fatal consequences, the list goes on and on...

We have had months of being battered with what we already know about our racist societies here and elsewhere, but with increased intensity in lockdown.
It is clear to us from those we work with, that young people of colour’s hearts and heads are feeling a hundred times heavier because of racism.

How many staff conversations have been preparing for supporting the impacts of racism explicitly?
