why anitwt should care about #BlackLivesMatter : a thread
i'm writing this thread b/c i've seen so many people saying "why can't we just remain apolitical on our page?! this is for fun, isn't it?" well here's why:
first of all, if you are not enraged, you should be. poc and ESPECIALLY black people could literally just be breathing and get attacked and murdered.
if you have a platform, whether it's one follower or 1000, you should speak up against injustice, otherwise you let the oppressor win. justice is brought about by the voices of a people who yell in anger for those who cannot.
finally, my main point. you want to remain apolitical for the sake of only talking about your favorite anime? well, i hate to break it to you, but anime is an art form. and art is inherently political.
art is inherently political because it is a representation of humanity, both now and what it dreams of becoming. when we consume media, we should be mindful of who it is representing and how we can help them.
you watched attack on titan and saw how people are traumatized by violence. you watched fullmetal alchemist and saw how power in the wrong hands costs the lives of thousands of people.
you watched hunter x hunter and saw how corrupt governance brings about ruin and pain. you watched my hero academia and saw how the young can change the course of history. and you don't want to speak up?
when you watch anime and feel bad for the heroes fighting against a corrupt system, remember that it is real. it may not be happening in the world of nen and quirks, but it is happening in this one.
you and the art you consume do not exist in a bubble. in the face of injustice, choosing to be quiet is siding with the oppressor. so speak.
