Check your white privilege and admit the violence inflicted upon black people by white people has been and is currently traumatizing the black community through degradation, genetically passing down generational trauma and inflicting fear into an entire population of people.
Understand that in your white life, you are given the benefit of the doubt. You are free to fuck up. Your taking another person’s life holds lesser weight than someone wrongfully accused of a crime, all because you are white and they are black.
Your freedom to exit a grocery store, birdwatch in a park, jog, conduct your job, sit in your own living room or drive your car will never be questioned by a white authority, while that same authority will snatch a black life for nothing. Nothing. No punishment administered.
It should not take knowing a black person, cherishing a black person or loving a black person to understand their freedom to live carries no less weight than my right to live mine.
If a fire doesn’t burn within you to eradicate those who are enabling this abusive, criminal, evil system, then get out of the fucking way. Your playing small only proves that watching your fellow human’s lives being destroyed doesn’t keep you up at night.
If you are a “let’s hear both sides” while a haunting video clip reveals murder, you are the problem. You don’t have to pull the trigger to be labeled as such. “Paid leave while under investigation” sounds a lot like “we actively are paying murderers” to me.
