#OTD in 1995 I was the Engr Tp Comd with 1 RWF in Gorazde Bosnia. The Bosnian-Serbs attacked Gorazde and after ferocious fighting, 33 hostages were taken from the @UN #UNPROFOR OPs on the front line. 1/5

Of those who had been in camp, most had moved 2 days earlier into the hills to avoid reprisal attacks for airstrikes. A few stayed in camp incl Spr H who kept the water purification going until we came back 2 weeks later. 2/5

As @proud_sappers we had already built many protected shelters in camp, but on our return we built many more until we could all live in them for weeks at a time. 3/5

With fuel stocks running low, yet electricity being essential for communications, Sapper #innovation started to build a generator using waterwheels and a washing machine. 4/5
