this is the absolute last thing that I want to talk about because it’s a no-brainer but please. if you’re privileged. do not take a criticism of systemic inequality as a personal criticism and get defensive. just listen and uplift the voices of those directly affected. thank you.

please read the room when those affected are practically begging you to. I guarantee that any sting you feel or any “how dare? I would never” is much less than the burden on the disenfranchised who have to step around the feelings of the privileged every day to hold down jobs.

the concerns of other marginalised voices are not a denigration of your own. privilege is messy and oppression is messy. nothing interfaces cleanly so please. if someone is asking you to listen, do so. that is often all that they are asking for and will do you that courtesy too.

this thread isn’t an attack on anyone. it’s a plea. try to understand how tiring it can be for marginalised people of all types in this industry and beyond to bear both the burden of silence AND obedient explanation at the behest of others. give us a fucking break and pay us.
