Katas Raj Mandir - Glory of past, Ruin of the present

This shiva Mandir located in Potohar Plateau of Punjab Pakistan,local name of this temple complex is Qila katas.
The Hindu Shahis established hindu temple at Katas Raj from the mid 7th to 10 centuries,

Though the British engineer Alexander Cunningham dated the shrines around 66BCE ,Hindu shahis also funded the construction of several other Temples in this area.

Maharaja Ranjit Singh also regularly performed pilgrimage to this site.

Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva although there exist several other temple dedicated to Shri Rama & Hanuman and other god & goddess

There are several legends about this temple few of them are :
- The Temple's pond (20ft deep)have been created from the teardrops of god Shiva

After he wandered the earth inconsolable after the death of Mata Sati
- Legend is that Shri Krishna himself established a Hand Made Shivlinga here in Katas Raj Temple.

A no.of bones & limbs & vertebrae of animals have been found at some near by site.

Prehistoric axes & knives made of granite & artifacts like terracotta bangles & poetry have been also unearthed at the katasraj site.
But sadly after partition the fells into disrepair over the decades ponds wer littered by local people.t
