Something i realized tonight.
I don't like the words tolerance or acceptance when it comes to skincolor, religion, gender, sexuality etc.

Both are active words, giving the person using them the power and it basically symbolizes a compromise.
"Tolerating" something or someone means deciding to accept an inconvenience.
And saying "i tolerate/accept xy" is belitteling and kinda ridiculous.

My acceptance doesn't change if someone is trans, black, gay, jewish, white, hetero, bi, pan, cis, whatever.
I'm pretty sure the rainbow doesn't care if i accept that it's so colorful.

The sun definitely doesn't give a damn if i dont want to tolerate/accept it being so bright.

This being said. Tolerance is a very important early step in human society
Taking homosexuals as an example.

1. They had to be seen. In daylight and in public. Not as some dark shadows in rumours and whispers. But out there.
Normal people like all others.

2. Society had to start tolerating them. Acknowledge their existence.
3. Society had to accept them. Accept that being homosexual ist just another part of sexuality (and for that matter, heterosexuality isn't the only part).

4. Society had and has to welcome them. Not as a threat or an inconvenience. But as fellow individuals.
5. Society has to forget about them being "different" altogether. Instead acknowledge them as being just another part of being normal.

This goes for all parts of society and all marginalized groups.

Society is slow, but like a caterpillar it's slowly moving forward.
It's also important to note, that what i just wrote also applies to harmful ideologies.

If we tolerate racism, sexism, homophobia and discrimination of any kind, we accept it.
If we accept it, we welcome it until it becomes part of normality.
TL'DR. Don't tell someone you welcome you tolerate/accept them. And if you value them, don't tolerate any discrimination against them.

Tolerating discrimination means welcoming the very thing threatening their safety and maybe even existence.
Edit: when i say "forget about them" i don't mean ignore them.

Adding captions to a video for people who have trouble hearing, trouble to differentiate sounds, to understand spoken words etc. Is still a service that has to be provided for instance.
But providing this service should be normal.

Making a house accessible for wheelchairs should be normal.

The same way it's normal to sell 3 million different kinds of shampoo.
