Ive seen a lot of people apologizing for using aaves like “bae” and others, so lets talk.

Language as a whole has forever been constructed and evolved thanks and by a multiplicity of cultures. A constant fusion of culture and dialects that come and go with time and generations.
Therefore, policing unharming and common words that have been expanded and popularized by the natural process of cultural intersection is not only ridiculous but imposible. Here are some example of other AVEE terms to explain what I mean
It would be down right imposible to separate language based on the culture you are part of. Globalization and Social Media has connected tje way we speak more than ever. The innocent use of some of these words is not harmful and shouldn’t be prohibited BUT
I’m not saying cultural appropriation is okay because wE sHaRe. Within relies a deeper topic. A lot of these words are seen as “ghetto” and “low life” in the pronunciation and mouths of black people and “cool” and “trendy” for everyone else. That’s the tricky part. Oppression.
Black people have been culturally, societally and systematically oppressed for centuries. And at the same time we have been stolen from our culture. That’s the important topic, thats what has to change.
Thats why it kinda makes me mad seeing people so worked up about avees when we are going through a serious protest. Focus on the racism, the unfair death and daily treatment of black people. Don’t bring up people saying “woke” or “lowkey” as a problem when we are discussing -
actual, serious life threatening topics. It takes away the focus on the actual effects of oppression in the lives of the people. And shifts attention to insignificant things compared to reality.
Avoid racial slurs. Avoid harmful historical words. Avoid using language as a way to imitate black people but the world is not going to fall down by someone saying “bae <3” as before anyone else while black people are dying ffs.
In synthesis. DONT SHIFT ATTENTION TO MORE SUPERFICIAL STUFF WHEN WE ARE TALKING ABOUT SERIOUS SHIT. It allows people to make a joke and ignore the (actual and seriously embedded in society) problem. Our struggle as black people is bigger than someone saying “basic”.
Its good to educate your self and I’m glad you’re learning about all the contributions of the black community. But let’s just not be absurd and illogical. Let’s keep putting pressure and demanding justice, let’s not loose north.

Because that’s exactly what they want us to do.
